EThekwini Municipality’s Library Department has embarked on
a drive to promote reading amongst all citizens under the banner: One City One Book. The first book for
the programme was launched in September 2013 during Heritage month.
The concept of the programme is to select one book per annum
and then to make it widely available to the public through branch libraries in
order to provide a focal point for the promotion of reading, social cohesion,
debate and discussion. Various activities and displays take place throughout
the year related to the One City One Book
concept and to the content and themes present in the current year’s book.
The launch of the new book for 2014/15 will take place on September
26 at Botanic Gardens. It is titled A native
of nowhere: the life of Nat Nakasa by Ryan Brown.
