(Ross McGregor, Lance Phillip, Zani Ludick,
Ilané van Wyk, Lourie Coetzee and Maryke Smit)
For its next performance this weekend, Baroque 2000 will
team up with six soloists of the Odeion Choir of Bloemfontein for a rare
performance of Dietrich Buxtehude’s lyrical and expressive cantata cycle in
seven parts, Membra Jesu Nostri.
The soloists include sopranos Zani Ludick and Hadassah Neele
with alto Ilané van Wyk, tenor Lance Phillip and bass Werner Stander with Lourie
Coetzee on the organ.
The concert will be directed by Lance Phillip, the conductor
of a highly successful performance of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas with Baroque 2000 and the Ars Nova choir of Pretoria some years ago. In the forthcoming concert, Lance Phillip will also
take one of the tenor parts.
Buxtehude, who was revered by JS Bach, cast this
work in the form of seven Cantatas on the subject of the Crucifixion.
The concert takes place at the Church of the Monastery,
Mariannhill on October 26 at 15h00. Tickets R120 at the door and there is ample
free and safe parking. Enquiries to sursouth@iafrica.com or on 082 303 5241.
The project is sponsored by Die Rupert Musiekstigting
