BHEKI KHOZA 2014 KZN TOUR

(Bheki Khoza)

Having already performed at the Centre for Jazz, the KwaHluzingqondo High School, Amahlongwa, and the KZNSA Gallery, Bheki Khosa continues his KZN tour with two more performances this weekend.

Bheki Khoza plays left handed guitar; his style is drawn from his deep cultural roots and given polish and style by his years overseas where he played with such greats as Wes Montgomery and Sonny Rollins. He played with the fabulously popular African Jazz Pioneers creating one of their greatest hits, Sgaxa Mabhande.

He was the favoured guitarist to musicians such as Zimbabwean-born jazzy song-bird Dorothy Masuku, who wrote and performed songs celebrating the music of her adopted Sophiatown for decades. In the 90’s he was often around Durban touring with such greats as Sipho Gumede, Winston Mankuku and Victor Ntoni who often played such happening venues as Sipho Gumede Hall at the BAT Centre and, of course the Rainbow Restaurant in Pinetown. He is producer for the sensational singer / performer Simphiwe Dana.

Bheki Khoza will perform with Mandla Zikalala (bass); Mncedi Kupa (keys) and Babes Ndamase (drums).

This tour is supported by Concerts SA and produced by The Headroom. Concerts SA is a joint South African/Norwegian initiative that aims to stimulate live music in South Africa by finding and implementing ways to create regular, sustainable performance platforms. It also aims to develop an interest in and appreciation of live music by showcasing music performances and conducting workshops at schools.

Bheki Khoza will perform at the Magabheni Community Hall today. Ticket R30 (R15 students) at the door

His final KZN tour performance takes place tomorrow (October 26 at the Rainbow Restaurant at 23 Stanfield Lane, Pinetown. Doors open at 13h00 and admission is R60.  Booking through www.webtickets
