Over the past two months, the uShaka Marine World
Entertainment team have been touring KwaZulu-Natal in search for new and
emerging talent to add some special sparkle to the 2014/2015 entertainment
calendar!
The uShaka Search for
the Stars finals in partnership with the Department of Arts and Culture saw
acts ranging from singers, dancers and bands to speciality acts and were open
to both amateurs and professionals. The winners from each of the categories
will be employed by uShaka Marine World in a year-long contract to perform as
entertainers on an ad-hoc basis within the park.
Wayne Scott, uShaka Marine World’s Entertainment Manager,
was extremely impressed by much of the talent that took part in the finals of
Search for the Stars. “It certainly paid off by travelling our province seeking
out fresh talent and bringing them all together to compete for this prize, and
in doing so providing our visitors the best entertainment.”
The winners are as follows:
Durban: Mbijana Sibisi (soul); Amazing Grace (gospel); The
Gift (contemporary dance); Twisters (pantsula); Warrior Knights (hip hop
dancers) Football dancers; Abafana bevari (gumboots); Sibo Masondo (French Mime
Artist); Amaphephethe (wedding singers), and Umuzi wenkosi (Tswana dancers).
Also representing Durban are the Afro Jazz bands Ms Classic and Makhulu and
the acoustic band The Mirrors.
Pietermaritzburg: Troublemakers (Local Dance)
Ilembe: Dumisa 454 (kwaito
singers) and Street Kids (hip hop singers)
Hluhluwe: Insingizi
Emnyama (uShameni and Amambo (Isigekle)
Ugu: White Bread (Acappella)
Newcastle: Izintombi Zosizo (Ingoma yamantombazane)
