Thanks to Bill Budd and Stuart Mey, at last Durban has a
Friday night dance venue, with a top class live band, again. Dance studio
members, line dancing groups, social groups, parents without partners are all
welcome.
Back in the day when Larry & The Lounge Lizards was one
of the busiest, and most popular bands in South Africa, one of the best
supported gigs in town, was the regular Monday night "over 35's"
evenings at the now defunct and demolished Sand Pebbles at the Mermaid Lido
building at Durban's South Beach.
Every Monday night, for about four years, hundreds of over
35 year olds, many of them singles, would pack the place, meeting like-minded
friends, enjoying dinner, dancing and just enjoying a good time. In time, the
Durban Beachfront tended to lose popularity, Sand Pebbles closed down, and
eventually the Mermaid Lido was demolished, with the remodelling of Durban's
Golden Mile.
Since then Durban has sadly lacked a venue, where people,
over the age of 35, could meet friends, have a good meal, and dance to a 6
piece live band.
Top Durban restaurateur Bill Budd, who brought Durban the
Legends restaurants and, more recently, The Shak restaurants, has teamed up
with well-known Durban musician Stuart Mey to fulfil that need.
From November 21 at 19h00, Durban's over 35's who like to
dance, meet up with friends, enjoy a meal and a few drinks can head for one
Durban's best kept secrets - Buds On The Bay - which will play host to Boogie Friday with The Handsome Devils (many of whose
members were part of Larry & The Lounge Lizards, including
"Larry" himself)
There is no cover charge, and there is a very good value for
money menu available, as well as a cash bar and dance floor. To book a table,
