(The Fulton School for
the Deaf Choir)
The Old Mutual Music at the Lake tomorrow (November 22) features
SAMA-nominated electro-swing act GoodLuck, electro-house act The Kiffness, trio
Rubber Duc and Jeremy Loops.
Appearing with Jeremy Loops to perform his hit single Power will be Durban’s Fulton School for
the Deaf choir, proving that music does have the power to transcend boundaries
and unite the Deaf and hard of hearing with the hearing world.
Loop’s Power is a
typical inspirational piece with a motivational message, “seeing what my eyes
can’t see, and being what I wanna be … you’ve got power, now don’t stop your heart
showing it”. The track’s mellow vibrations and catchy sing-along lyrics are
given a sign performance treatment to endearing effect by the Fulton School
choir for silent ears.
“Being able to perform on stage for an audience provides a
platform for their self confidence to grow and enables learners to make
connections and share a part of their culture with the hearing world,” said
Fulton educator and choir-master Nicole Robson.
“Connecting to music and songs is another opportunity for
learners to experience the world around them. Lyrics are a powerful way to
share messages across the world - the universal language of music allows them
to express themselves creatively especially through dance.”
“Each concert seeks to bring the beauty of music to all
communities and this special performance is an apt illustration of the power
that music has to achieve great things,” added Old Mutual sponsorship manager
Bandile Mngoma.
