Johnny Clegg and
Ladysmith Black Mambazo perform together for the first time
Two iconic South
African acts, Johnny Clegg and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, share the stage for the
first time at the Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert at the Durban Botanic
Gardens today (November 9) offering music lovers a history-making performance
of note.
Returning from his
nine week tour of the USA and Canada, where he performed 42 shows in 67 nights,
travelling 27,000km, Johnny Clegg will perform hits from his recent album, Human, as well as some of his fans'
all-time favourites.
Sharing the same
stage will be four Grammy Award-winning trailblazers, Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
These music masterminds are embarking on a new era as Thami Shabalala, the
38-year-old son of recently retired founder Joseph Shabalala, takes over the
reins as the group’s new lead singer. The 12 member ensemble now also includes
this talented family's third generation: Joseph's 23-year-old grandson,
Babuyile Shabalala.
Gates open at 13h00
for on-the-day sales. First on stage is Ladysmith Black Mambazo at 15h00
followed by Johnny Clegg at 16h00.
Secure parking is
available on the Juventus ground. Entrance to all parking is off lower John
Zikhale (Sydenham) Road, adjacent to the Botanic Gardens and the Munies Hockey
Field, also off lower John Zikhale (Sydenham) Road.
