The Roy Couzens Theatre at Westville Boys’ High School opens
its 2015 season and 60th anniversary year with a new production of William
Shakespeare's Macbeth, directed by
Luke Holder.
After the runaway success of 2014’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Westville Boys’
presents its annual Shakespearean production with an ambitious staging of the
Bard’s final great tragedy. Macbeth
runs for a limited season from February 10 to 13. Matinee performances for all
high school learners studying Macbeth
as a setwork at school also take place during the run.
Tempted by the prophecies of three mysterious witches,
Macbeth’s ambition to be King of Scotland leads him into a nightmarish world of
evil, deceit and murder. Monstrous actions run rampant as he and Lady Macbeth
lose themselves to unstoppable drives of savagery and political atrocity.
Featuring spectacular swordfight choreography, live music, and stunning visual
effects (including an indoor rain machine), this classic tale of power and
madness promises to be like nothing audiences have ever seen on the Westville
stage.
The terrifying final performance of William Shakespeare's Macbeth at Westville Boys' High School
takes the form of a formal medieval banquet.
If you are looking for an alternative to Valentine's Day, or simply an
excuse to dress up in proper Renaissance clothing, join the cast on February 13
for a five-course banquet and the final performance of Macbeth - a lusty, passionate and genuinely terrifying homage to
the pursuit of power and the violent love that accompanies it. All proceeds from the banquet will be donated
to charity.
