(Joanna Frankel)
Music Revival in association with Friends of the Tatham Art
Gallery presents the first Tatham Classics concert for the year. Playing a
summery and varied selection of music, the highly regarded international
concert violinist, Juilliard graduate and popular Concert Master of the KZN
Philharmonic Orchestra, Joanna Frankel, partners Christopher Duigan in a programme
of exciting compositions.
Included are two rarely performed works by WA Mozart and the
Sonata by Maurice Ravel which includes a strong ’jazz and blues' influence. This
jazz inspiration and energy is extended into a
selection from Gershwin ’s Porgy and
Bess as transcribed by Heifetz and music by South American Alberto
Ginastera. This vivacious virtuosity
will also be also heard in Sarasate’s Carmen
Fantasy, a selection of
improvisations where the violin takes centre stage in music based popular
melodies from Bizet’s Spanish-flavoured Carmen.
Cafe Tatham will serve a buffet lunch from 1.00pm as well as
tea items off the menu. Please phone 033 342 8327 to book.
The concert takes place tomorrow (February 1) at 15h00 at
the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg. Tickets R80 booked through booking@musicrevival.co.za or Music
Revival on 033 342 3051 or sms 083 417 4473. There is secure parking.
