WAKE MAHLOBO QUINTET

The Rainbow Restaurant with support from Concerts SA present the Wake Mahlobo Quintet on February 1.

Mfanafuthi Mahlobo, also known as Wake was born in Kwa Mashu. His passion for music has sustained him for over 35years in the music industry. A founding member of the Band Stax, and owner of the company “Bring us through”, he started his music career at an early stage as vocalist than switched to drumming.

He has been involved in different projects as a singer or playing drums, performed and recorded with giants such as the late Sandile Shange, Mandla Masuku, Mbongeni Ngema, Sipho Gumede, Brian Thusi, Hugh Masekela, The late Vuyo Mokoena, Pure Magic, Joyous Celebration 7.8.9, Rebecca Malope, Thandiswa Mazwai, Zim Nqawane, Duke Makasi, Dorothy Masuku, Siphokazi, Busi Mhlongo, Afro Soul, and Mafikizolo to name a few.

He has groomed and developed artists Sharon D, the late Lebo Mathosa, and recently recorded a choir from Kwa Mashu (Kwa Mashu Praise Jesus) He is known nationally and Internationally after touring with different bands and now he has decided to come back home and plough back his musical skills. He is passionate about youth development in music & art.

He is now working on a solo career writing his music and performing with a four peace band. His music is a mixture of African Jazz music with Blues and Funk influences, as well as music from South African legends.

Joining Wake in the Quintet will be Siya Duma (saxophone); Thulani Shezi (piano); Sandile Dlamini (bass guitar) and Xolani Shabalala (percussions).
