An dance programme will take place at Durban’s Bay of Plenty
Lawns, North Beach, at 14h00 on January 17.
Youth Dance Force is the culminating production of Siwela
Sonke Dance Theatre’s Education and ReachOut Programmes. These groups have been
working with Siwela Sonke’s dance teachers for six months, developing their
dance technique and honing their skills, thanks to a grant from the National
Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF).
This showcase of hard work and dedication includes more than
80 children from Durban Central, Clermont, Umlazi and Kwamashu. The Youth Dance
Force Production has also been made possible through support from the eThekwini
Department of Arts and Living Cultures.
“Siwela Sonke Dance Theatre is proud to host this production
and showcase our talented young dancers,” says the publicity material. “It is
also a particularly special event as this is the first production for Siwela
Sonke’s 20th anniversary. Since its inception in 1994, Siwela Sonke has become
one of the leading dance companies in South Africa, producing and touring work
nationally and internationally.
