The Schlesinger Theatre at Michaelhouse will host two
performances of the Matric production of Sam Shepard's True West.
True West is a
play by Post-Absurdist American writer/actor Sam Shepard. Written in 1980, and
winning the Tony Award for best revival in 2006, it explores American life and
popular culture through the story of two brothers, Lee and Austin. Austin is a
writer working feverishly on a screenplay, hoping to hit the big time with the
help of his agent Saul. But his small-time criminal brother Lee has other
plans. He bulldogs his way into selling the agent his own story, the concept of
which is popular with the studios, who are all offering big bucks. Male
competition, jealousy and the fading American Dream all come together in this
gripping thriller about two brothers.
Directed by William le Cordeur, True West has performances on February 17 and 18 at 19h30 in the Schlesinger
Theatre at Michaelhouse. Tickets R50 booked through Mrs Angela Jonsson on email at
theatre@michaelhouse.org or call
