Produced in 2014 and directed by Stephen Frears, the movie
stars Judi Dench and Steve Coogan.
In 1951, Philomena, a young Irish girl, falls pregnant after
having sex at a fair. Her family sends her away to an abbey, were her baby is
put up for adoption against her will. Many decades later, her relentless search
for her lost son leads her on a heart-breaking journey across the Atlantic.
Oscar winner Judi Dench received her seventh Academy Award
nomination for her portrayal of Philomena Lee, a woman in search of her lost
son. This gripping drama was also nominated for Best picture, Best Adapted Screenplay
and Best Original score.
