Afrikaans music icon, Kurt Darren, will
stage his debut performance at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway on June 15 - the
eve of the Youth Day public holiday.
Ultimately,
Kurt Darren’s popularity and craftsmanship have resulted in 19 years as a top
recording and performing artist, songwriter, radio and TV presenter, and motion
picture star. This award-winning, multi-platinum South African artist’s total
CD sales exceed millions of copies.
Kurt
has been the recipient of 22 awards, including seven SAMA Awards (from 2007 to
2011), as well as Most Popular SA Pop Star And TV Presenter, making him the
undisputed Prince of Afrikaans Dance Music!
He
has paid his dues and, after the release of his debut album For Your
Precious Love (1995), followed by a series of pop work in English, before
Kurt hit it big with his Afrikaans debut Net Jy Alleen (Only You) in
2002. His 22 studio albums and three DVDs showcase versatile talent (doing all
the background singing and harmonies himself), smooth vocal ability, unique
style and virile personality.
His
party smash hit Meisie Meisie was followed by numerous other hits,
perhaps the most well-known Loslappie, Kaptein and Hemel Op
Tafelberg. His English hits Standing On The Edge and My
Facebook Song have become favourites on English radio. He keeps
churning out the hits, and has recently released a new album, Lied Vir Die
Vrou.
Currently
one of the most popular and busiest artists on local hit parades, stages and
festivals around South Africa, Darren was the only Afrikaans speaking artist
who performed at Madiba’s 90th 46664 Birthday Benefit Celebration Concert in
Hyde Park, London in 2008.
This will be the first time that Kurt is being seen at
The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway. The performance will take place on June15. Tickets
