( Anthony Stonier)
Anthony Stonier
takes a ‘down memory-lane’ meander through the marvellous melodies of one of
the most famous composers of all time ... Richard Rodgers in the production The Sound of His Music.
Stonier, who is
synonymous with the annual Durban adult panto, is one of KZN's most popular
singer/actors who has won Best Male Vocalist at the Durban Theatre Awards three
times. This particular show - The Sound
of His Music was a hit at The Witness Hilton Arts Festival in September
last year with sold-out performances.
Most lovers of
musicals will be familiar with Rodgers’ work with Oscar Hammerstein: Oklahoma!, South Pacific, The King and I
and The Sound of Music. Less
well-known, however, was his earlier collaboration with another lyricist -
Lorenz Hart.
This collaboration
produced Jazz Standards such as Blue Moon,
Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered and My
Funny Valentine to name but three. The playlist includes Oh, What a Beautiful Morning!, Some
Enchanted Evening, Surrey with a Fringe on Top, Hello Young Lovers, Edelweiss
and You'll Never Walk Alone.
Adding to the magic
of the Seabrooke's season, a different guest performer will join Anthony on
stage, for a particular song, at each performance.
The Sound of His Music runs at Seabrooke’s Theatre, Durban High
School from June 16 to 21 nightly at 19h00 except for the Sunday performance which
takes place at 14h00. Tickets R100 (R80 pensioners and students). Bookings
through phone Ailsa / Charlotte of GoingPlacesSA on 083 250 2690. The entrance
to DHS is off St Thomas Road, Essenwood.
