NEA INDIGENOUS ARTS DEVELOPMENT APPLICATIONS

The National Eisteddfod Academy (NEA), supported by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, is seeking Regional Facilitators / Representatives for the inaugural NEA Indigenous Arts Development Festival in North West, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, and Gauteng.

The NEA Indigenous Arts Development Project aims to promote participation in indigenous performing arts forms - dance, music, storytelling and other speech/drama activities that will utilise the use of indigenous languages; particularly in underprivileged communities.

The project aims to promote, develop and preserve the authenticity of indigenous cultural expressions (dance, music, theatre and literature); to create pride and interest in, as well as awareness of indigenous performing practices, both with participants and the broader community; to elevate the status of indigenous practices through inclusion in an eisteddfod platform and acknowledgement of achievements; to improve performance standards in and establishing adjudication standards for indigenous practices; to promote youth development in the arts through participation in various indigenous activities (dance, theatre, music and storytelling) and to identify and motivate talented young performers through the acknowledgement and showcasing of their achievements.

The focus for KwaZulu-Natal is Zulu culture and the NEA is urgently seeking Regional Facilitators/ Representatives - skilled individuals who will support the implementation of the project. Successful candidates will be required to attend a three-day training session for the festival at the NEA offices in Randburg.

The duration is a three to four month contract commencing July 1. Closing date for applications is 16h00 on June 24, 2015.
