Multi-award winning South African guitar player, Guy Buttery has announced the launch of a crowdfunding campaign in support of his upcoming album.

The campaign hosted by IndieGoGo will run for two months (July and August) and got off to a fantastic start, reaching 40% of the intended goal in just eight days. Buttery has received seven SAMA nominations, including two wins at the South African Music Awards as well as having the honour of being awarded with more Standard Bank Ovation Awards than any other artist. His new record is still in the works, but sees him take his idiosyncratic guitar music into a very new setting alongside a stellar line-up of acts from around the globe.

“This album is literally the most ambitious thing I’ve ever done in my life”, says Buttery. A year in the making, he has invited artists from France, Italy, the USA and from all over South Africa to feature on the record. So far, listeners can expect guest appearances from Vusi Mahlasela, AKA “The Voice”, blues guitarist Dan Patlansky, French singer Piers Faccini, World Music artist Derek Gripper, singer-songwriter Nibs van der Spuy, Standard Bank Artist of the Year, Shane Cooper and multi-Grammy Award winner and founder of Windham Hill Records, Will Ackerman.

The basis of this campaign is to garner support to help Buttery deliver the best possible version of the album. In exchange, he is offering not only the music itself but chances to grab exclusive house concerts, T-shirts, limited hand-numbered vinyls, demo recordings, two of his personal guitars as well as role as a producer and engineer at his home studio for other artists.

According to his IndieGoGo page, the music has been a departure in many ways from Buttery’s earlier works in that it is more cinematic, ambient and groove driven. The album is also shaping up to be a far bigger production which features more collaborations and instruments from around the world than any of his previous albums. Buttery has said that he hopes to change the way acoustic guitar is seen as a driving force behind the compositions on this album.

Buttery has propelled his career far beyond the borders of his beloved South Africa. As an internationally-recognized musician, this multi-instrumentalist enjoys invitations to play sell-out performances all over the globe. His international role has surpassed merely playing shows to foreign audiences. It has evolved into one as an ambassador of South African music, inspiring people across the world with his homegrown style at the very heart of his talent and tenacity.
