(Johan Van Der Merwe; Johnny Casquinha; John Skuy;
Nicole Couto-Leite; Tony Fisher and Richard Ellis)

Fresh and flushed from their recent one-nighter at Rhumbelow in April and other prominent local venues since, Mais Que Nada (More than Nothing) returns to the Rhumbelow to run from July 24 to 26.

The show features Nicole Couto-Leite (piano/vocals); Johnie Casquinha (guitar/ lead vocals); John Skuy (bass guitar/vocals/lead vocals); Graham Ellis (lead guitars); Richard Ellis (percussion, congas, effects and vocals); Johan Van Der Merwe (timbales/percussion); Tony Fisher (mandolin/violin/vocals) and Mark Swanepoel (drums/vocals).

Mais Que Nada is soulful, sexy and sassy, giving people the opportunity to leave their inhibitions at the door, grab a partner or just sit happily tapping their toes - all the old favourites are well-known to most people who remember the good old days in Lourenco Marques and LM Radio - and it's reminiscent of good food, old friends and even better wine.

“We take people on a journey of discovery; distant lands, images of bronzed legs twirling in brightly patterned dresses, hearty laughter being shared around an outdoor cafe table and to a place where life is carefree and lived to the fullest,” the group promises. “The magic of this show transports the audience to places where wine is consumed under grape vines while domino and card games are played ... the old men of the Buena Vista Social Club reign supreme!”

Mais Que Nada runs at Rhumbelow Theatre from July 24 to 26 with performances on Friday and Saturday at 20h00 with two shows on Sunday (14h00 and 18h30) (Venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner). Tickets R120 (R100 pensioners). Bring food picnic baskets. Braais will be available should you wish to cook some meat. Bar available (no alcohol may be brought on to the premises). Limited secure parking available. Booking is essential through Computicket, or contact Roland on 082 499 8636, e-mail: or visit
