Emmanuel Cathedral will host its Annual Organ Concert
featuring guest organist John Foreman.
John Foreman was born in 1948 in Torquay, a seaside holiday
resort in the South-West of England. He started having piano lessons at the age
of eight at a preparatory school and continued to study piano and organ up to
grade 8.
He holds a diploma with the Royal College of Organists. He
was also an organist for the Roman Catholic chapel at Britannia Royal Naval
College Dartmouth for five years and choirmaster at a number of local churches.
Also featured in the concert will be Durban Church organists,
Lulu Sibisi and Siyabonga Gumbi, as well as a vocal ensemble of Negro
spirituals.
The concert will take place on July 24 at 19h00 at Emmanuel
Cathedral, Durban Central. Admission is free, a retiring collection will be
taken to assist with maintenance of the cathedral’s 103 years old pipe organ. 10%
will be donated to the Dennis Hurley Centre.
Free organ workshops will be held from July 23 to 25. Each
person will be given individual tuition for 30 minutes. To book your time contact
