(Simthandile Mtolo)
Jazz songstress Simthandile Mtolo will perform beautiful
soulful melodies at the Jazzy Rainbow on July 18.
Mtolo is well embedded in the creative industry, and not
just as a jazz singer, but as an actress, visual artist, events co-ordinator
and arts business entrepreneur. She has appeared on the stages of The Durban ICC,
The Playhouse and Grahamstown National Arts Festival stages and her own
productions and projects have been staged in places ranging from the Catalina
Theatre, The Bat Centre, and a range of other prestige venues such as the
Hilton Hotel, and The DuBoirs for private, more coincided work.
Mtolo additionally owns and runs Ebonygypsy Arts, which is a
Durban based multi-disciplinary arts business which engages in the prospect of
arts development, industry management and the creative business structure. She
does corporate work, private events and often collaborates with her family.
Recently, she appeared in a hair product television commercial
and took part in Idols Season 10, where she made it to the group sessions in
Sun City.
“I don’t really get a lot of opportunity to do public
performances, and am thrilled to tackle the splendour and technique it takes to
master an Esperanza Spalding number as a cover,” she says.
Mtolo often focuses on South African contemporary soul and
jazz in her performances, but is promising her audience to expose her
international interests this time. “I’m going to try out a bit of some
Chrissette Michelle and some Nina Simone.
The performance takes place at The Jazzy Rainbow on July 18.
Doors will open at 19h00. Tickets R80 include a free drink; compliments of the
venue. The evening is set to end at 23h00. For bookings, or more information contact
