The next Friends of Music recital will take place on
September 8 and will feature the
Odeion String Quartet which was established as a full-time resident
string quartet at the University of the Free State (UFS) in 1991. It is the
only resident string quartet at a South African university.
The Quartet members include Samson Diamond (2010 Standard
Bank Young Artist Award for Music) on 1st violin (SA), Sharon de Kock on 2nd
violin (SA), Jeanne-Louise Moolman on viola (SA) and Anmari van der Westhuizen
on cello (SA).
The 2014 Kanna and
Vryfees award winners, the Odeion String Quartet symbolises the University's
commitment to the arts and plays an important role in the development of music
in the Free State. Their programme will include Tchaikovsky’s String
Quartet No. 3 in E-Flat minor, Op.30 and Beethoven’s String Quartet in E minor Rasumovsky Op.59 No.2.
The Prelude Performer for the evening is Arliya Peters (keyboards/vocal).
The
recital takes place at 19h30 on September 8 at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 K.E. Masinga (Old
Fort) Road, Durban. Tickets R70 (R60 FOM members and R20
