The Centre for Jazz
and Popular Music will present Heels Over Head on August 26 at 18h00 to close
Women’s month shows.
Heels over Head is
a Durban based band that started in 2008 by a group of ladies who are
passionate about music. The bands current set-up includes talented female
instrumentalist: Chillie Stent on guitar, Rebekah Doty (drums), Mandy Cobbing
(keys), and well-loved vocalists Nomkhosi Mazibuko and Thulile Zama. They will
be in the company of Lee Ngidi on bass, who has been playing with them for
almost two years.
Renowned for their
suave, sophisticated and sparkling stage presence, the band has found its groove
and created a smooth, watertight brand of soul-kissed contemporary jazz that
has become their signature sound.
Some of their
achievements include winning of the Yamaha Young Talent Award in 2010 and being
nominated for a South African Music Award for best contemporary album in 2011
for their debut album Could It Be
which racked up popular and critical acclaim. In November 2013 they have
released an EP titled "Sondela".
