Appearing on the M-Net Movies Premiere DStv Channel 103 on August
14 at 19h00 is The Giver.
Directed by Phillip Noyce in 2014, this action adventure
movie stars Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Brenton Thwaites and Cameron Monaghan. Filming
took place mainly in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Oscar winner Jeff Bridges was enthralled by the novel of the
same name, written by Lois Lowry, and knew he wanted to see it translated to
the screen. He envisaged his father Lloyd in the role of The Giver, but ended
up playing it himself.
In a community that appears perfect, without sorrow or pain,
18-year-old Jonas is chosen to be the Receiver of Memory. An old sage lets him
in on the harrowing secrets of human existence, from which everyone else is
shielded. Can he continue living in this counterfeit world? Rating: PG13V
