The Centre for Jazz
and Popular Music will present Amanda Tiffan at Centre for Jazz and Popular
Music this evening (Tuesday, September 29). She will be joined by Neil
Gonsalves on piano, Ildo Nandja on bass and Bruce Baker on drums.
Amanda Tiffan has
performed extensively as a vocalist and/or pianist in South Africa in numerous jazz
venues, concert halls and festivals. She has appeared in London, with the Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra, and tours regularly as a jazz artist in Japan and
Taiwan.
She has recorded
four albums, the most recent with her Asia-based jazz trio – the a.s.k trio,
and is set to release her latest one, in collaboration with saxophonist Shannon Monday and musicians from Sweden and Norway, in 2015.
Tiffan performed
with her South African trio at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, 2010,
and backed George Benson on the festival in 2011. She holds a Masters Degree in
Jazz Composition & Performance. She is a passionate educator, and regularly
conducts workshops and master classes both in South African and abroad. She is
Head of Jazz Singing at the College Of Music, University of Cape Town.
The concert takes
place tonight (Tuesday, September 29) at 18h00 at The Centre for Jazz and
Popular Music (CJPM) Level 2, Shepstone Building. UKZN Howard College Campus
