Genre-defying South African Jazz outfit Language 12 is currently
presenting its The Land of Milk and Honey
national tour which reaches Durban this evening.
Comprising Marcus Wyatt on trumpet and efx, Siya Makuzeni on
vocals and efx, Melissa Van der Spuy on keys and soundscapes, Romy Brauteseth
on bass, Justin Badenhorst on drums and Fried Wilsenach on sound design,
Language 12 return with their second album Maji
Maji, the product of a collective of musical nomads whose crates of vinyl
would clearly be worth years of digging in, such is the astonishing range of
influences.
Language 12 represents a different approach to South African
Jazz –an elusive sound that is moving forward, respectful of the past, whilst
not being afraid of twisting boundaries.
The Land of Milk and
Honey national tour is made possible by the Concerts SA Mobility Fund - a
funding mechanism which offers opportunities for South African musicians to
undertake live music tours, administered by Concerts SA, a joint South
African/Norwegian project.
Language 12 performs tonight (September 26) at 21h00 at The
Chairman, 146 Mahatma Gandhi Road, Point, Durban. Tickets at the door. For more
