SEPTEMBER 5: MNET MOVIES

If you’re intending to stay at home and watch TV today (Saturday September 5), M-Net offers a good selection:

X-Men: Days of Future Past - M-Net Movies Action+ DStv Channel 106 at 14h05. Directed by Bryan Singer in 2014, the film stars Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin and Ian McKellen.

A tight, bright script, a stellar cast which includes Oscar winners Anna Paquin and Halle Berry, as well as stage and screen legend Ian McKellen, propelled the seventh X-Men film to huge acclaim and financial success. Wolverine travels in time to 1973. A correction to the flow of events – which includes a fateful decision by President Richard Nixon regarding sentinels created to slay every mutant on earth – can save the world from impending doom.

Up - M-Net Movies Family DStv Channel 105 at 19h00 is an animation adventure movie directed by Pete Docter in 2009 and featuring Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer and Jordan Nagai. In a daring move, animation giant Pixar let go of every proven ingredient of a winning formula: no heroes this time; no princesses; minimal action. A senior citizen is the main character. The result? A beautiful human drama about loss and redemption.

Carl, a childless widower, gets an idea to rekindle a dream of a trip to the South American wild, which he abandoned at the death of Ellie, his long-time partner. By tying millions of balloons to his home, he takes to the air in an attempt to drift to his destination. To his shock, he finds an uninvited travelling companion

The Taking Of Pelham 123 - M-Net Movies Action+ DStv Channel 106 at 20h00. Directed by Tony Scott in 2009, the action thriler stars Denzel Washington, John Travolta, John Turturro and James Gandolfini

Double Oscar winner Denzel Washington and Golden Globe winner John Travolta play the parts of negotiator and urban terrorist, respectively, in an action thriller set on a New York train. James Gandolfini is seen as the mayor of New York.

A former Wall Street high roller holds a grudge against New York’s power moguls after spending 10 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. He leads a band of heavily armed thugs, who uncouple the front carriage of a train and holds its passengers hostage. A large ransom must be paid within an hour, or the first hostage will die.
