Wushwini Arts, Culture and Heritage Centre, spearheaded by
its founder, Jerry Pooe, will host a four-day programme focusing on
presentations of new theatre plays and readings.
This exciting new concept titled Celebrating New Works will run from October 15 to 18 at Wushwini Art
Centre, overlooking the scenic Inanda Dam in KwaZulu-Natal’s famed Valley of
1000 Hills.
The project aims to identify potential new works for KZN festivals
and institutions but most of all to improve the quality of theatre from
aspiring writers and directors who will showcase their new works.
Some of these works will be read and followed by a
discussion and feedback from the panel of respected writers and directors such
as Kobus Moolman, Roel Twijnstra, Emma Durden, Zeph Nzama and Jerry Pooe and
other arts practitioners, as well as performers and audience members.
The idea is for the creators to assess the inputs and
thereafter rework their scripts. These will then be considered to be part of the Uhuru,
Botho Festivals of Wushwini Art Centre and any other independent festivals.
