Concerts SA supports The
Battle of the Saxes tour which features two of South Africa’s pre-eminent
saxophonists: classical saxophonist Matthew Lombard and jazz saxophonist
Karendra Devroop who bring their own brand of music to Durban, Cape Town and
Pretoria in October.
This unique project features classical saxophone, jazz
saxophone, jazz rhythm section and string quartet performing repertoire
comprising primarily South African compositions.
Matthew Lombard is one of only a few classically trained
saxophonists in South Africa, and actively performs and teaches nationally.
Karendra Devroop is a nationally renowned jazz saxophone player with a growing
international profile.
This tour has been generously supported by the Nedbank Arts
and Culture Trust, as well as the Concerts SA Mobility Fund.
The Battle of the Saxes
tour includes a performance at the UKZN Centre for Jazz and Popular Music
(Durban) which will take place on October 23.
The music starts at 18h00 and there is a cash bar. More
