FLATFOOT AUDITION NOTICE!

FLATFOOT AUDITION NOTICE!

Flatfoot Dance Company is a 12 year-old award winning African Contemporary dance company based in Durban, working from a home base provided by the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Howard College Campus).

Flatfoot is looking for one female dancer and one male dancer (both need to be a minimum of 20 years old) who would be interested in joining the company on a full-time professional contract (35 hours a week) as of January 18, 2015. The company has a full annual programme that includes performance seasons both in and out of South Africa, dance education and development programmes, and schools/university dance education work.

Flatfoot works in a contemporary idiom based on Hawkins, Graham, Horton and Release Technique but the company also does a weekly ballet and Pilates/yoga class. All Flatfoot dancers form part of the administration of the company and its programmes and, as such, the new company members will need to be able to write reports (guidance is always offered!) and assist with negotiated administrative tasks.

Job requirements are: a minimum of two years full or part-time contemporary dance training and/or professional dance work; proven dance/arts education and dance teaching experience (formal and non-formal educational/arts environments will be considered). The minimum age is 20 and theapplicant needs to have a valid South African passport and a valid South African driver’s licence will be an added benefit! Applicants also need to have writing and administration skills (English and/or isiZulu) and be computer literate (minimum of WORD).

Auditions will take place on December 7 at Dance Studio 2 (UKZN – Durban campus) from 13h30 to 14h00 (registration and own warm-up) followed by an audition class with Flatfoot’s Artistic Director, Lliane Loots from 14h00 to 16h00. Shortlisted interviews will take place from 16h30 to 18h00.

You are not required to prepare anything for the audition as it will take the format of a company class in the style that Flatfoot work. The audition, however, will include some improvisation exercises as part of the class process.

All those who audition will have an answer either way by December 18, 2015.

Those interested should book an audition space with the company manager (Clare on 082 875 6065). Those who have not pre-booked an audition place will not be allowed into the audition.

Auditionees need to write a maximum three page CV which should include contact details, the names and contact details of at least two referees, a short list of where they have received dance training (and with whom), with whom they may have worked/danced with professionally/semi-professionally or in their training. Also a short list of any dance/arts education and dance teaching work they may have been involved in. The CV should also include a headshot.

This CV – along with requests for further information - should be e-mailed to flatfootdancecompany@gmail.com
