Westville Theatre
Club is staging a modern day pantomime version of the classic fairytale, Sleeping Beauty, subtitled (Inside The 21st Century) #2015 during
December.
Featuring an IT
nerd hero, a Greenpeace activist for a Princess (complete with her three
‘fairies’, a neurotic mother and an over-indulgent father) and a suitably evil
Augusta Stern, recently fired from Castletech, the biggest corporation on
Westville Square.
On the Eve of
Aurora’s (the daughter of the chairman of the board of Castletech) 16th
birthday, Augusta plans to poison the lovely girl using a ten-tiered birthday
cake that her two nitwit sons managed to bake at home for the occasion.
Featuring also “The Dame” – journalist Gwendoline Gil, this panto promises to
have audiences giggling and singing throughout the show.
Liberally spiced
with music and songs that narrate the story from the likes of Alexandra Burke, Le Cage Aux Folles, Michael Buble, The
Andrews Sisters, Sweet Charity,
Stacey Orrico, Scissor Sisters, Second Hand Serenade, Queen, Footloose, Katy
Perry Timbaland, Beejees, Hairspray,
Bryan Addams, Elton John, Avril Lavigne, Camp
and PointerSisters.
The cast has pulled
out all the stops to bring this production to life, learning lyrics that were
written and adapted for the show. The four-piece band contributes to keeping
the performers on their toes and making the show larger than life.
Sleeping Beauty runs from Thursdays to Saturdays at the Westville
Theatre Club from December 3 to 12 at 20h00.There will be a matinee on December
5 at 15h00 and on December 6 at 16h00. Take your own eats and drinks.
