Back by popular
demand, and even bigger and better than last year’s production, The Playhouse
Company’s A Christmas Celebration is
set to be a festive must!
Imagine Josh
Groban’s You Raise Me Up sung by
South African jazz and Afro-pop legend Judith Sephuma and opera star Bongani
Tembe, accompanied by the 80-strong KZN Philharmonic! This is just one of the
pieces to be featured in this festive season extravaganza which opens in the Playhouse Opera Theatre on December 19 for a
short run.
Featuring over 150
performers on stage, including celebrated gospel stars Andile KaMajola and
Neville D, as well as Raphael Vilakazi, Filipa van Eck, Nozuko Teto, the
singers from the Playhouse Chorale, and dancers from the Playhouse Dance
Residency, A Christmas Celebration promises
holiday audiences a passionate and stirring Christmas spectacular of music and
dance directed by Ralph Lawson and choreographed by Sean Bovim.
Other items on the
programme include Christmas carols such as Silent Night, stunning dance
pieces such as excerpts from The Nutcracker, a dance strength-act from
Cape Town that will have audiences gasping in awe, and much more.
The Playhouse
Company is offering audiences the opportunity to catch a preview of the
production on December 18 at 19h30 for only R100 each from Computicket,
irrespective of seat position. Patrons arriving early will be able to watch jazz
band 5th Season and poets Koleka Putuma, Pearl Gatsheni, Vusúmuzi
Phakathi and Langelihle Maniza Khuzwayo performing live in the Playhouse Foyer
for the Company’s regular Sundowners concert,
which starts at 17h00.
A Christmas Celebration runs from December 19 to 24 in the Playhouse
Opera. Ticket range from R100 to R200, depending on seat position, booked
