DEATH OF SHADRACK NGEMA

(Shadrack Ngema)

Shadrack Ngema – known for his role of the traditional healer, Magubane, in the popular sitcom Emzini Wezinsizwa which ran from 1994 for ten years, died on December 5 at the age of 65 after a short illness.

Based in Durban, Ngema worked as a radio sport commentator for SABC’s uKhozi FM and was a popular figure at the Durban Studios.

“During my early days in radio drama and later with Lotus FM radio drama, we would often meet in the corridor and he always had a ready smile and something amusing to chat about,” says Caroline Smart, artSMart editor. “While he appeared in Zulu language radio drama, I remember the occasions when he would take part in English dramas for Radio South Africa (now SAFM). RIP Shadrack.”
