SHARON KATZ & WHEN VOICES MEET

(Sharon Katz)

Message from Sharon Katz, founder of The Peace Train, from Philadelphia, PA, in the US:

“To all friends in South Africa and across the African continent: The documentary When Voices Meet will screen across South Africa and Africa on Christmas Eve (December 24) at 19.55 on DSTV ED Channel 190 and GOTV Channel 65.”

The programme will be repeated on December 27 at 13h55 and 21h55.

Born in Port Elizabeth, Sharon Katz made history in South Africa in 1992 when she formed the country’s first-ever 500-member multi-cultural and multi-lingual performing group and staged the production When Voices Meet.

A year later, she launched her concert tour, The Peace Train. She raised sponsorship to hire a train – The Peace Train – and took 150 of the performers, her friends Ladysmith Black Mambazo, as well as TV and radio crews on tour throughout the country. At each stop along the route, they performed their concert and encouraged people of all races, cultures, ages and political affiliations to put down their guns and hostilities and to prepare for the country’s transition to a peaceful democracy.
