THE FUTURE OF OUR ARTISTS WORKSHOP

Amazwi Omzansi Africa Trust in collaboration with SA-UK Seasons 2014-15 will host a one day workshop in Durban giving South African artists the insights of ShowBiz with a panel of industry heavyweights who will share their knowledge with fledgling arts practitioners.Titled: ARTS: The Future Of Our Artists, it will take place at the Durban Music School on December 19.

Under the directorship of the Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner for music 2014, Njabulo Madlala, the event is expected to be another success-following the last three workshops and singing competitions that Madlala has held in Durban since 2013, which has allowed young and aspiring singers to become involved in national and international arenas.

Past collaborators and teachers have included leading practitioners including Dr.Sibongile Khumalo, Dr Bronwen Forbay, Sally Burgess and Violina Anguelov. It has also received support from Richard Cock's Apollo Trust.

This year’s event will feature discussions and training with industry professionals such as Ismail Mahomed (National Arts Festival Artistic Director), Dr Gcina Mhlophe (activist, actor, storyteller, poet, playwright, director and author); Greg Homann (theatre director and academic); Unathi Malunga (entertainment lawyer/ cellist and conductor), Karabo Logoabe (Arts & Culture Trust Programme Coordinator), and acclaimed leading South African singers Thulile Zama, Lu Dlamini and Mbuso Khoza.

Njabulo Madlala, who has successfully cemented his reputation as an international South African artist is currently based in London, UK.

The workshop is organised as part of the South African Season in the UK. The SA-UK Seasons 2014 & 2015 is a partnership between the Department of Arts and Culture, South Africa and the British Council.

It will take place on December 19 from 10h00 to 18h00 at the Durban Music School

Other events include daily workshops open to the public at the Durban Music School from December 14 to 18 led by Njabulo Madlala and UK pianist and vocal coach Chad Vindin. There will also be a full day's masterclass given by Sibongile Mngoma on December 17.
