The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway is cruising
into 2016 when they stage California Sunshine, a tribute to the birth of
the LA music scene, from January 28 to 31.
This is what happens when you take two of
Durban’s most experienced and popular “tribute bands” - 80’s party band,
Hairlip, and the group of musicians responsible for the amazing The Johnny
Cash Show - put them in a room together and tell them to choose their next
big project!
California Sunshine pays tribute to the era around the dawn of the
sixties Californian musical revolution, when the scene migrated from
“sophisticated” New York down to “hippy” Los Angeles, thus creating "that
sound".
It features the music of Bob Dylan, Neil Young,
The Band, The Eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Crosby Stills and Nash, The
Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Joni Mitchell and so many more brilliant artists
that created such unforgettable songs from that iconic time. Accompanied by
audio visual projections that tell the visual story from that era, this show is
one not to be missed.
Songs include The Weight, Ophelia, Like A
Rolling Stone, I Shall Be Released, Mr Tamborine Man, For What It’s Worth,
Tequila Sunrise, Take It Easy, Heart Of Gold, Old Man, Woodstock, Down On The
Corner, plus a whole lot of surprises.
The band consists of seasoned South African and
Durban musicians, namely, Matt Wilkinson, Rob Warren, Garth Warren, Gareth
Gale, Roly Struckmeyer and Nic Olsen. The show will also feature a few guests
including Andy Lund from Cape Town.
The theatre will open at 18h30, the show will start at
20h00, and tickets are R150 pp. For bookings and enquiries, phone The Barnyard
