With 22 local films released this year, it has never been a
better time to be a screenwriter in South Africa.
So says Daniel Dercksen, formerly with the Playhouse Company
and now the driving force behind the successful Cape Town-based independent
training initiative The Writing Studio. He has been a published film and
theatre journalist for 30 years and has been teaching workshops in creative
writing, play-writing and screenwriting throughout South Africa the past 19
years.
The workshop is ideal for aspirant screenwriters who would
like to sharpen their storytelling skills and explores the fine art of writing
visual narrative, mastering the skill of plotting and structure, and developing
and exploring ideas and characters.
The course is also ideal for novelists who would like to
adapt their work into a visual medium, or writers who want to write stage plays.
The Writing Studio’s Weekend Workshop for Screenwriters takes
place on February 6 and 7 from 10h00 until 18h00 at Annie Malan Promotions at
Willowview, Burnside Isle, 410 Jan Smuts Avenue, Craighall Park.
