(Jae appears in “90’s
Mania”)
The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway will celebrate the venue’s
100th major production with a trip back to the end of the 20th century, when it
stages 90’s Mania from March 8.
The show is a double celebration of this milestone and a
cool decade filled with a variety of pop, rock, alternative, old school and a
collection of one-hit wonders!
Featuring an 11-piece cast of singers, dancers and
musicians, 90’s Mania is a blast from
the past that saw an emergence of new iconic bands such as Nirvana, The
Counting Crows, Eagle-Eye Cherry and many more. We also saw the emergence of a
new selection of rock and pop divas such as Alanis Morissette, Mariah Carey,
Celine Dion and Gloria Estefan; and also new male rockers such as Robbie
Williams, Lenny Kravitz and Ricky Martin.
The 90’s hip-hop scene achieved popularity with Coolio and
Will Smith, whilst the boy and all girl groups emerged with vengeance, with
names such as The Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child, Backstreet Boys, Westlife, Boyz
II Men and NSYNC who all dominated the pop charts. The old school rockers also
made their mark with groups such as Genesis, Mike and The Mechanics, Roxette,
and UB40; whilst South African music took to the world stage with names such as
Brenda Fassie, Mandoza and Vicky Sampson’s hit song African Dream, which celebrated the birth of a new South Africa in
1994.
Besides the birth of the internet, this iconic decade
delivered some remarkable music, and 90’s
Mania delivers an awesome night that will bring back the memories, songs
and parties and that saw the close of the millennium. So, don’t miss out on
this ultimate 90’s party!
