Alliance Française de Durban will present Exploration – a video-art &
photographic exhibition curated by Delphine Colin - which opens on February 18.
The exhibition will display the discovery of the different phases / faces of
Africa.
For the
last four years, Colin has been developing digital creation about her travels
in Africa: Madagascar, South Africa, Lesotho and Tanzania. She took many
pictures to show, in a poetic way, the daily life of people in villages. She
spent time with communities to discover their daily conditions of life and to
photograph them in the intimacy of their homes. Through black and white
photographs, digital images and drawings, she explores the different faces of
Africa to draw public attention to real-life situations.
However, her
images are more than documentary photography: they are transformed in their
colours, disappearing in the excessive white of the background, mixed with two
or three pictures to create a new one. In that way, the images express
feelings, memories, dreams, poetic world and talk about universal human
experiences.
Exploration runs
from February 18 to March 7 at
Alliance Française de Durban at 22 Sutton Crescent, Morningside. For more information,
