"Birds
of a feather will be flocking together And displayed upon our wall there'll be
big ones, small ones and birds of many colours. So please fly in to Artisan as
your next port of call!” So says the Artisan Gallery about its next exhibition
which opens on March 17.
The
gallery will be a-flutter with paintings, drawings, sculptures and even jewellery
on the theme of birds.
Artists
best known for their illustrations for the Roberts Bird book include Penny
Meakin, Graeme Arnott and Ingrid Weiersbye while Gill Gerhardt and Clyde
Neumann have a more whimsical approach in wood, as Deidre Schoultz with her
droll line drawings.
Well-known
wildlife artists Ian van Zyl and Barbara Siedle as well as John Smith, Heather
Sclater, Sean Simons, Barbara Becke and Corina Lemmer will exhibit their finest
feathers and nests. New sculptures by Carl Roberts and Helena Vogelzang,
photographic works by Harry Locke and Mike Loveridge as well as a digital
painting by Kyle Loveridge and silver pendants from Miriel O'Sullivan promise
to keep Artisan at the forefront of contemporary art in South Africa.
The
exhibition will be opened by Crispin Hemson on March 17 at 18h00 for 18h30 and
then runs until April 23. Artisan
Gallery is situated at 344 Florida Road, Morningside, Durban. The gallery is
wheelchair friendly. More information on 031 312 4364 or 083 301 5747, email: info@artisan.co.za
