Friends of Music’s next recital takes place on May 3 and
will feature Alexander Ramm and Pieter Jacobs.
Russian cellist Alexander Ramm is recognised for his
appealing artistic creativity and unprecedented technical skills. He has won
prizes at many international competitions and in June 2015 he was awarded 2nd
place and silver medal at the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition.
Pieter Jacobs is highly regarded as both a soloist and
chamber musician. He is a graduate of the University of Pretoria and Yale
University School in the USA where he was awarded a doctorate in Music. His scholarly pursuits have included a second
doctorate in electronic engineering.
Their programme includes Edvard Grieg’s Cello Sonata in A
Minor, Op 36; Samuel Barber’s Cello Sonata in C Minor, Op 6, Claude Debussy’s
Cello Sonata in D Minor, Op 40 and Astor Piazzolla’s Le Grand Tango for Cello
and Piano.
The Prelude Performer for the evening will be Rashalia Pather
(piano) who has studied under Liezl-Maret Jacobs and has won many national
music competitions. She will perform Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in D Minor, Op.
32 No. 2 (“Tempest”): Largo-Allegro and Debussy’s L’isle Joyeuse.
The recital will take place at 19h30 on May 3 at the Durban
Jewish Centre, 44 K. E. Masinga (Old Fort) Road, Durban. There is safe parking.
