The Centre for Jazz
and Popular Music will present the Forest Jam Orchestra on April 6 at 18h00.
Forest Jam South
Africa is an educational non-profit organization that consists of members who
are mainly young music students, music teachers, veteran master musicians,
music business experts and administrators from Southern Africa and Switzerland.
Forest Jam operates
out of Durban. It works nationally with Concert SA and their main sponsor is
the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia together with volunteers from the music
industry who are supporting the cause of this educational organisation.
The Program
Director for Forest Jam South Africa is Robert Trunz of world music label Melt
2000. The Forest Jam’s educational drive has an emphasis on tradition. Their
educational drive includes music forms with the emphasis on traditional African
music and teaches awareness of the musical heritage of countries in Southern
Africa. The original Forest Jam Club was founded and is registered in
Switzerland and has since organised two major educational events in Switzerland
and Madagascar in 2014 and 2015.
The Forest Jam
Orchestra line up will be Bernard Mndaweni (bass), Nicky Shange (vocals),
Matthias Abächerli (bass and violin), Carlo Menet (electric guitar), Jul
Dillier(keyboard), Cyril Michel (vocals), Lerato Ntsane Lichaba (electric &
acoustic guitar), Gontse Makhene (percussion), Matchume Zango (timbila and
Percussion), Chico Antonio (guitar) and Madala Kunene (guitar).
The concert takes
place on April 6. Doors open at 17h30 and the show starts at 18h00. General admission
R60 (R40 pensioners and R20 students.)
The Centre for Jazz
