SPECIAL DURBAN SCREENING OF “FREE STATE”

After an absence of some years, Nicola Breytenbach and Andrew Govender who head up the cast of the new Sallas de Jager helmed feature film, Free State, will join co-star Leleti Khumalo in Durban on April 25 for a special screening of the film at Sun Coast.



Born and raised in Durban, South African-born beauty Nicola Breytenbach has graced the pages of Cosmopolitan, Elle magazine, Vogue and American Marie Claire, to name a few. She’s walked the runways of Milan, Paris, London and New York for designers Chanel, Galliano and Dior. She’s done campaigns for Revlon, L’Oreal and Versace and mingled with the likes of Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, David Blane and Giselle Bundchen and worked alongside international supermodels Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer.



She is now based in New York where she lives with her husband Ben Steiner and two daughters. Free State marks her feature film debut.



Andrew Govender hails from Johannesburg where he matriculated with six distinctions from Glenvista High School. He holds an Honours Degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Witwatersrand. He has modelled since the age of 16 and was crowned Mr South Africa in 2012 and went on to represent South Africa at the Mr World Competition. Now based in Los Angeles, he works as an actuary while pursuing his acting career. Free State marks his feature film debut.



Free State is written and directed by multi-award winning filmmaker Sallas de Jager (Roepman, Stuur Groete vir Mannetjies Roux), and is a collaboration between de Jager’s Bosbok Ses Films and Rajiv Terwadkar’s Utkarsh Entertainment in association with Indian production company, Parnam Entertainment. Rajiv Terwadkar will host the screening at Sun Coast.



Set in South Africa during the 1970s, Free State tells the story of Jeanette (Breytenbach), a beautiful open minded law student. During a summer holiday spent with her father in the Free State, a random act of kindness by Ravi (Govender), an attractive Indian man, sparks an unexpected love affair. Despite being warned not to act on her feelings, Jeanette decides to pursue a secret relationship with Ravi. When their relationship is exposed, it leads to a very tragic turn of events.



Free State is distributed by Times Media Films and will be released on circuit on April 27, 2016.
