Deadline: June 27,
2016
Submissions are open for the 6th annual Durban Gay &
Lesbian Film Festival (August 19-28 2016) here in South Africa. The DGLFF is
now the longest running LGBT film festival in Africa since the significant
downscaling/closure of the renowned Out-in-Africa South African Gay &
Lesbian Film Festival.
“As a small but vibrant volunteer-driven project, the DGLFF
has continued to manage to keep the platform alive with talent and LGBT
experiences from all over the globe for over five years now. We remain an
important bedrock of queer culture and a safe space on an African continent
rife with homophobia, transphobia and hate crimes against LGBT people,”
explains festival director Jason Fiddler.
Participation in the Festival not only exposes filmmakers'
work to new audiences, but also expands on the stories and highlighting of
issues so very necessary for change on the continent. The DGLFF works with
virtually no budget but manages to deliver a qualitative audience experience
coupled with a significant media campaign.
Submissions close June 27, 2016.
