Ten years ago on September 25, 2006, Disney
Channel (DStv Channel 303) broadcast for the first time to South African
viewers on DStv. To celebrate its 10th anniversary on DStv, Disney
Channel will be opening to DStv Extra and Compact customers from September 5 to
October 10, 2016.
DStv customers can look forward to a month of
celebrations, unwrapping the very latest and greatest programming from Disney
Channel, including returning seasons of fan favourites and brand new
live-action and animation series.
Disney’s 100th Disney Channel Original
Movie (DCOM), Adventures in
Babysitting will premiere on September 23 at 17h25. Sabrina
Carpenter (Girl Meets World) and Sofia Carson (Descendants) join
forces in this contemporary re-imagined tale of the hugely popular 1980s
blockbuster with the same name. This live-action adventure comedy brings
together two unlikely friends when a tedious evening for two contentious
babysitters turns into an exciting journey in the big city as they hunt for one
of the kids who somehow snuck away.
To build excitement for the premiere of Adventures in Babysitting, Disney
Channel will showcase some of the best DCOMs every weekend at 17h25. DStv
customers will get the chance to vote for their top three DCOMs via the Disney
Africa Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/DisneyinAfrica) and the official Disney
website (www.disney.co.za), with the selections airing from September 19 to 21.
Stuck in the Middle is a new
live-action comedy series that premieres on September 22 at 18h15 and follows
12-year-old Harley, who is the ultimate middle child, stuck in the middle of
seven kids. It’s chaos times seven, but Harley realises guts, ingenuity and a
seat near the mashed potatoes make living large a whole lot of fun. Stuck in the Middle will be joined
in the Thank Disney It’s Thursday
slot (17h25 to 19h05) by new episodes of fan favourites Alex & Co, Girl Meets World, and Mako Mermaids, with season finales
of Backstage and Austin & Ally.
Also joining the Thank Disney It’s Thursday block is Disney’s first ever South
African long-form series production Disney
Cookabout, the comedic adventure game-show that uses food
preparation, cooking and outdoor exploration to showcase local ingredients and
a fun-filled approach to healthy eating. Catch it each Thursday at 18h40 from September
8.
Not to be missed is the sneak peek into Disney
Channel’s upcoming series Bizaardvark
– the side-splitting comedic adventures of two quirky 13-year-old best friends
who write funny songs and create music videos for their online channel, and
their quest to become online stars.
Together with some of Disney Channel’s most popular
movies, such as Full Out,
A Bug’s Life and Ratatouille, September is going to
be a full of festive fun as Disney Channel celebrates 10 years on DStv.
Disney Channel will be automatically opened to DStv
Extra and Compact packages on September 5. To view this channel, customers
should ensure that their decoders are set on All Channels.
