Friends of Music’s next recital on August 9 will feature
South African musicians Sabine Baird (flute) and Ventura Rosenthal (harp).
Baird began her music studies in Germany. She was appointed
associate principal flautist with the National Philharmonic Orchestra and
performed as first flute with all the major orchestras in the Gauteng Region. She
joined the KZN Philharmonic in 2005 and was appointed principal flautist in
2006.
Rosenthal studied the harp in Bucharest. She immigrated to
Israel where she continued her studies under the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra
and then immigrated to South Africa and joined the National Symphony Orchestra
from 1977 to 2000. She is now the principal harpist with the Johannesburg
Philharmonic Orchestra.
Their programme will include works by Boisvallée; Donizetti;
Zabel; Von Wilm; Doppler; Zamara; Petra-Basacopol; Debussy and Molnar.
The Prelude Performer for the evening will be Casey Chiang
(piano) who will perform works by Clara Schumann; Margaret Bonds and Blanche
Selva
The recital will take place on on August 9 at 19h30 at the Durban
Jewish Centre, 44 K E Masinga (Old Fort) Road, Durban. Tickets R100 (R80 FOM members
and R20 orchestral/students) There is safe parking..
