(Lana Crowster)
The Centre for Jazz
Popular Music will present Lana Crowster tomorrow night (August 10) at 18h00.
Crowster is a
singer, composer, arranger based in Cape Town. Her love for jazz started at 15
years old when she joined The Artscape Youth Jazz Big Band. Under the tutelage
of Dr Mike Rossi and Darryl Andrews, exposure to this art form inspired her to
further her knowledge of jazz, bebop and swing in its entirety.
Academically, Crowster
holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Vocal Performance as well as a
Post-Graduate Diploma in Jazz Vocal Performance, which she achieved with
distinction, from the University of Cape Town. She has worked as a lead
vocalist in numerous jazz, pop and cover bands.
She has shared the
stage and studio with many local and international artists including George
Benson, with whom she performed at the 2010 Cape Town International Jazz
Festival as part of his Tribute to Nat
King Cole show. 2011 saw Lana performing alongside Josh Groban on the Cape
Town and Port Elizabeth legs of his sold-out Straight To You tour.
In 2014 she
released her debut EP entitled SEASONS,a
blend of inspirations and influences of her musical past which she co-produced with
award winning jazz pianist Bokani Dyer.
On August 10, Crowster will be joined by Burton Naidoo (piano/keys), Ildo Nandja (bass), Jude
Kenrick (drums) and Phumlani Mtiti (alto sax). The performance takes place at
The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM), Level 2, Shepstone Building at
UKZN Howard College Campus. Doors open at 17h30 with the show starting at
