Blank Canvas Productions will produce their third show –
titled Love? – at Seabrooke’s Theatre
from August 11 to 21..
The theatre company was originally founded in 2015 by James
Jooste (writer/producer), Ndili Stamper (director), and later Nkanyiso Yeni (co-director/finances).
In August, 2015, they produced their first show, a youth-orientated talent
showcase. In March, 2016, they produced It’s
Not Your Fault! a dysfunctional family dramedy that was met with good
response from critics and audiences alike.
Love? is written
by James Jooste and directed by Nkanyiso Yeni. The cast includes Carey Swan; Lerato
Xaba; Maxim Birch; Casey Milledge; Bronwyn Botha and Richard Scates. Sound and
lighting is by Dylan Jooste.
The plot follows Eliza (Swan), a girl who’s just moved from
life on a farm to a small town where she becomes a waitress at a quaint café
called Bake My Day. This poorly-run café is owned by Lucy (Botha) a not-so-business-savvy
30-year-old who not only struggles to run the café but also herself. The café
has only one other employee, Kathryn (Xaba), a sassy, no-nonsense waitress.
Eliza brings with her a sense of change and starts to bring new life to the
café. With Eliza comes a struggling author, Adam (Scates), a delusional actor,
Devon (Milledge), and Will (Birch), a grounded and smart mouthed guy with a
heart of gold.
Love? runs at Seabrooke’s
Theatre at Durban High School (DHS) from August 11 to 21 with performances from
Tuesday to Saturday at 19h30 and Sunday at 18h00. There are matinee shows on
Saturdays at 14h30. Tickets R100 (R80 students under 18/seniors over 65)
available at Webtickets.(Block bookings via email: James@blankcanvasproductions.co.za
