The eight-concert spring season of the KZN Philharmonic
Orchestra begins on August 25, and so do the pre-concert lectures, which are
organised by the Friends of Music and are aimed at improving enjoyment of the
music played by the orchestra.
The concerts take place every Thursday evening in the Durban
City Hall, and the lectures are given in the City Hall on concert nights, from 18h00
to 18h40. The entry fee is R10. Refreshments are available afterwards (concerts
start at 19h30).
The lecturer discusses the items on that night’s programme
and plays excerpts from the music. The emphasis is on information, informality
and humour.
The lecturers for the coming season are:
August 25 & September 1: Teddy Pillay
September 8: Michael Green
September 15 & 22: David Smith
September 29: Lykele Temmingh
October 6 & 13::Michael Green
