The Centre for Jazz and Popular music will present the Blvck
Crystals at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Centre for Jazz and Popular Music
on September 21.
The Blvck Crystals are a Durban based band, the core band
consists of pianist Jaedon Daniel, drummer Jude Kenrick, bassist Dalisu Ndlazi,
guitarist Nick Pitman and saxophonist Nokwanda Nkala. On occasion, the band
features two vocalists from Durban and two rappers from Cape Town.
Blvck Crystals’ sound is based on jazz and hip-hop. Each
member brings their own flavour to the music. A large number of the repertoire
is original material alongside a few covers.
Most of the band members are currently studying at UKZN School
of the Arts. The band recently completed a highly successful Cape Town tour in
July which took the band to higher levels. The tour successfully bonded and
increased the chemistry between the band members musically and off the stage as
well.
“Our goal is to platform new and fresh sounds while
portraying the origins of other music genres. Our musical journey has just
begun and we can't wait for what the future holds,” explains Jaedon Daniel.
