DIVORCE FOR M-NET EDGE

(Thomas Haden Church & Sarah Jessica Parker)

HBO’s all-new half-hour dramedy Divorce promises to present a long, hard look at marriage, and who better to tell that story than former Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker, who also serves as an executive producer on the show.

Parker stars as Frances, a woman who suddenly begins to reassess her life and her marriage to long-time husband Robert (played by Oscar-nominee Thomas Haden Church). Problem is, these two are about to discover that making a clean break and a fresh start may be harder than they thought, more so for Frances, who’s about to go through the never-ending process of unwinding a marriage.

When asked about what drew her back to the small screen, Parker said she had been developing the series for about four years. “There wasn’t a script, specifically-there was a story I was wanting to tell and had been curious about -the story of a marriage and an affair, and this was before The Affair (also scheduled on M-Net Edge) was on the air, and what does that mean, how can that work in a marriage, and what is an ordinary middle-class marriage in America right now?

“I hadn’t seen it portrayed on cinema or on television in a really long time, and in a way that I was most curious about. I don’t think this marriage is uniquely American, but I think that there is a time and a place about it that speaks to an economy and the hopes and dreams of a particular generation of people, and the disappointments in others and themselves,” she continued.

The dramedy also stars Emmy-nominee Molly Shannon (Enlightened), Talia Balsam (Mad Men), Tracy Letts (Homeland), Sterling Jerins (World War Z) and Charlie Kilgore (Moonrise Kingdom). The pilot episode was written by award-winning actress and creator of the series, Sharon Horgan, and executive produced by Paul Simms, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sharon Horgan, Alison Benson and Aaron Kaplan.

Divorce kicks off on M-Net Edge channel 102 on DStv next week, scheduled Express from the US on October 11 at 01h00 and in Prime Time on October 14 at 21h00.
